Digital Smile Design (DSD)
WHAT IS A DIGITAL SMILE DESIGN???
Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a treatment planning protocol that allows for careful analysis of the patient's facial and dental structures through state-of-the-art videography and digital technology. It allows the dentist to design a smile that can be tested for the best possible outcome in the mouth making it more predictable for cosmetic dentistry. Today, the DSD Concept is considered the most modern, patient-centered design approach available.
The procedure for a DSD is as follows:
- 1st consultation: digital scanning impressions with an IOS device and pictures intra orally and facial with a short 20 second video
- 2nd consultation is to to place a mock-up into the patients mouth, which more pictures and video is taken and viewed of a TV of before and after to show the potential outcome of doing veneers.
3D printed models are used to create the mock-up which are designed digitally on a computer with special CAD/CAM software.
The veneers are then duplicated according to the Smile Design and milled from E.Max (Lithium Disilicate) blocks on a special milling unit before placing in a furnace to harden it further.
